Seventy years of quality customer service are testimony to the staying power of the John Lawrie Group and the diverse range of industrial services provided under its banner.
Since the original John Lawrie scrap metal merchant operation was founded in Aberdeen in the 1930s, the business has sustained an enviable track record in delivering for its customers.
The result of this approach – of consistently meeting the needs of its clients down the decades – are plain to see. Today the John Lawrie Group is a family-owned group of international companies with a presence in Scotland, the USA, Scandinavia, Europe and the Middle East. Over the past 20 years turnover has increased from $750,000 per annum to $133 million.
Headquartered in Aberdeen, Scotland, it is one of the country’s leading privately-owned businesses. Most of its 100 staff are based in Scotland or with the group’s US interests.
The principal activities of the Group are centered on:
- The processing and sale of scrap metals
- The trading of new and reusable steel, tubulars and equipment
- The provision of key products and services to the oil and gas, shipping, construction and utility industries.
The hands-on approach of the senior management team, a business structure that allows the flexibility to respond quickly to customer requirements or new market opportunities, a workforce characterized by loyalty and expertise – all these serve to sustain the quality of services and the continuing growth of the Group.

The past decade has seen the John Lawrie Group establish a significant presence in the United States, encompassing some of its prime operational activities and servicing customers both in North America and further a field.
John Lawrie, Inc. is a major purchaser of surplus and used tubulars from the oil and gas industry throughout North America. It has become the foremost purchaser of structural drill pipe, casing, tubing, chrome and drill collars in the United States.
